Swedish-American pole vaulter Armand Gustav "Mondo" Duplantis soared to new heights once again, setting a world record of 6.27 meters at the All Star Perche meet in Clermont-Ferrand, France, on February 28, 2025. This marks the 11th time he has broken the pole vault world record, surpassing his previous 6.26-meter achievement set in Silesia last August.
A two-time Olympic and World Champion (2022, 2023), Duplantis continues to redefine the limits of the sport. Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis secured second place with a 6.02-meter clearance, while other competitors reached 5.91 meters, making it the first competition to feature multiple athletes surpassing this mark.
Before Duplantis dominated the sport, Renaud Lavillenie of France set a 6.16-meter world record in the 2012 London Olympics, pushing the event to new levels. He was later dethroned by Brazilian pole vaulter Thiago Braz, who claimed gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
At 25 years old, Duplantis has consistently raised the bar, competing alongside Filipino pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena in major events such as the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics. His steady rise saw him clear 6.17 meters, 6.20 meters, and 6.25 meters before setting his latest record of 6.27 meters, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest pole vaulters in history.
