BULACAN | The entire province of Bulacan has been placed under a state of calamity on Thursday, following extensive damage caused by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and typhoons Luis and Maymay.
The declaration was made official through Resolution No. 708-T ‘2026’ of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Bulacan after the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) led by Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, evaluated the severity of flood damage, losses in agriculture and infrastructure, and number of affected residents.
This is intended to help the provincial government address the needs of the residents affected by the calamity, access funds for relief and rehabilitation, speed up the provision of medical aid, and supply food and non-food items.
According to the PDRRMC’s latest report, 11 of Bulacan’s 24 cities and municipalities remained flooded, with water levels of one to three feet. The flooding affected 6,980 families or 23,334 individuals, while 2,146 families remained in evacuation centers as of August 19.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) meanwhile, reported that 87 evacuation centers were in use, including 13 in Hagonoy and 27 in Calumpit. These centers were sheltering 2,328 families or 7,875 individuals.
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) remains on Blue Alert status as authorities continue to monitor conditions across the province and coordinate with local disaster response offices.
The Bulacan PDRRMC reported that all monitored water levels remained below alarm thresholds as of August 20.
Fernando urged Bulakenyos to remain vigilant and follow official weather and disaster advisories as the province continues to monitor the possibility of further rains and flooding.
“Hindi man natin kayang pigilan ang pagdating ng bagyo at malalakas na ulan, kaya nating maging handa, magtulungan, at bumangon nang sama-sama,” Fernando said.
The provincial government vowed to continue monitoring and wield efforts to support affected communities.
